I think the main reason they stopped was because items were handed out, like T2 Blueprint Originals were given to 'Band of Brothers' alliance or something along those lines causing people to complain. In the end CCP just closed the project down, although I'd love it to start up again, just with a bit more security or something. I vaguely remember that when I started playing in mid 2007, there was an option to be clicked saying you are willing to participate in CCP run events. Someone told me this was canceled due to people crying about CCP allegedly giving favoritism (t20 scandal and such), and about rewards being game unbalancing.
